Lyrical dance is a style of dance that combines ballet and jazz. It is a smoother and faster dance then ballet, but it is not as fast as jazz. A dancer uses their body to express emotions they are feeling, like love, anger, joy, lose and more. Lyrical dances are normally danced to songs with lyrics. The lyrics are chosen to serve as inspiration for the movements and expressions. The music that is used is usually emotionally charged and allows a dancer to express themselves. Music can come from many different genres, including pop, rock, rap, hip hop and more. What ever song that allows a dancer to express a range of emotions is best. The movements of a dancer are characterized by fluidity and grace. A dancer flows seamlessly from one move to another, while holding finishing steps as long as possible. Leaps are often exceptionally high and soaring and turns are fluid and continuous. It is good to have a good handling of ballet when going into lyrical dance.
